About Bruce

For more than 40 years Bruce Claypool has been exploring the American landscape camera in hand bringing back an immense body of work. Vivid colors, from the deserts of the southwest to the rocky coast of Maine, have been his theme and his passion.

At the same time another exploration has been taking place in the studio. This one involves extreme close ups of flowers and other natural objects.

But several things remain constant - purity of color and the beauty of nature. These are subjects that can take a life time to explore. And within these pages we hope to show you some of Bruce's thoughts on these ideas.

Bruce wants to enlighten those interested in photography and in their environment with the ability to teach themselves by recording what they see from their own cameras and to give you the license to see and explore the beauty in every shot.

Artist's Statement - Patience

I've contributed my entire life to the colors and color critical accuracies by waiting and being there when the colors are just right. This results in all elements coming together at the precise moment the photo is captured. Perhaps it is all just GOOD LUCK and a lot of patience.

It’s all about patience. It’s about the patience to wait for hours for the few minutes that the light is perfect – and then being prepared for the exact second when nature matches the image in my mind’s eye.

It’s about the patience to craft the print without resorting to cheap digital manipulations. The color you see in my prints matches the colors of the original film.

It’s about the patience to wait for technology to catch up to my vision. The glicleé prints we're currently producing not only match the results of more traditional ciba chrome prints – they surpass it.

Creating these works has enriched my life in ways that I'd be hard pressed to express in words. I think the work speaks more eloquently then I ever could. It’s my hope that these images enrich your life as well.
